Timer Script

My role as the Timer is to help you keep track of the amount of time it takes to complete your speech, Table Topic or evaluation.

Today’s speeches are 4 minutes.  At 3 minutes I will show the green card (show card).  At 3 minutes 30 seconds I will show the yellow card (show card).  At 4 minutes I will show the red card (show card) and will show it until you complete your speech.

Table Topics are 1 to 2 minutes.  At 1 minute I will show the green card (show card).  At 1 minute 30 seconds I will show the yellow card (show card).  At 2 minutes I will show the red card (show card) and will show it until you complete your speech.

Today’s evaluations are 1 to 2 minutes.  At 1 minute I will show the green card (show card).  At 1 minute 30 seconds I will show the yellow card (show card).  At 2 minutes I will show the red card (show card) and will show it until you complete your evaluation.

Ah Counter

My role as the Ah Counter is to count the number of times each speaker uses filler and crutch words such as ah’s, um’s, so’s, you know’s , like’s, and’s, et cetera.  I will also look for doubled words such as and-and, you-you and others.  I will keep a stroke count of each occurrence and will report on it during the evaluation portion of the meeting.

Wordmaster

As Wordmaster, it is my duty to introduce the Word of the Day. For today’s meeting, the word is ______________, which means ________________________ (Display the Word of the day on the chatbox). An Example of using the word is: ____________. Each speaker is encouraged to use the Word of the Day.

Grammarian

When introduced by the Toastmaster, please state the following:
“Mr./Madam Toastmaster, fellow Toastmasters, and guests. As Grammarian, it is my responsibility to pay close attention to all speakers, listening carefully to their language usage. I’ll take note of any improper language, as well as any outstanding words, quotes, sayings, or thoughts.

 

General Evaluator

The General Evaluator evaluates everything that takes place during the club meeting. In addition, the General Evaluator conducts the evaluation portion of the meeting and is responsible for the evaluation team: the speech evaluators, Ah Counter, grammarian and timer. 

Toastmaster of the Day

The Toastmaster is the meeting’s director and host. A member typically will not be assigned this role until they are thoroughly familiar with the club and its procedures.

Topic Master role & Script

Taking on this role improves organization skills, time management and facilitation skills.

The Topicsmaster delivers the Table Topics® portion of the meeting, which helps train members to quickly organize and express their thoughts in an impromptu setting. As Topicsmaster, you:

  • Select topics in advance of the meeting that allow speakers to offer opinions.
  • Give members who aren’t assigned a speaking role the opportunity to speak during the meeting by assigning impromptu talks on non-specialized themes or topics.
  • Don’t ask two people the same thing unless you specify that it is to generate opposing viewpoints.
  • In clubs presenting a Best Table Topics speaker award, ask members to vote for the best Table Topics speaker.

Vote Counter Script

My role as vote counter is to collect the votes for best speech, best evaluator if more than one evaluator, and best table topics, if time permits a table topics session.  Please use the ballots provided to both write comments to the prepared speakers and to vote for the best speech, best evaluator and best table topics speaker.
